John Achterberg has confirmed his departure from Al Ettifaq. The goalkeeping coach, who spent many years at Liverpool, is leaving after two years in Saudi Arabia. Achterberg worked for fifteen years at Liverpool, collaborating with managers such as Roy Hodgson, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Brendan Rodgers, and Jürgen Klopp. Following the departure of Klopp, Achterberg also chose to leave, missing the chance to work with the recently dismissed Arne Slot. At Al Ettifaq, Achterberg joined Steven Gerrard two years ago, but with Gerrard's exit in early 2025, the same fate now awaits Achterberg. The next steps for the 54-year-old from Utrecht remain unclear.
