Eric Roy, the former manager of Stade Brestois, passed away at 58 earlier this month after battling pancreatic cancer for over three years, a struggle he kept largely private. His diagnosis came just a day after he took the managerial position at Brest in January 2023. Despite the dire news, Roy chose to inform only the club's hierarchy, who decided to stand by him, allowing him to continue his role. During his tenure, Roy led Brest to unprecedented success, guiding them to European football for the first time and securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League. This achievement was particularly noteworthy given the club's limited budget, establishing them as regular competitors in Ligue 1. As Brest mourns the loss of their inspirational manager, the club has yet to announce a successor, with assistant Julien Lachuer anticipated to take over the managerial role.
