Fiorentina Secures Brazilian Talent Viery from Gremio

In a strategic move orchestrated overnight, Fiorentina has virtually secured its first acquisition of the summer transfer window with the signing of Brazilian defender Viery from Gremio. This marks the first signing under the guidance of Fabio Paratici. The 18-year-old defender, highly coveted by the Viola, was procured amidst stiff competition from top Italian clubs such as Inter and Juventus, as well as international interest from Brighton, Benfica, and Newcastle. Fiorentina's substantial offer of €17 million to the Porto Alegre club has not only made Viery the most profitable defensive sale by Gremio but also placed him as the third-highest transfer fee for a defender in Brazilian football history. Only Vitor Reis and Lucas Beraldo, sold to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain respectively, have commanded higher fees. The left-footed central defender, who has made 27 appearances with two goals and an assist across the Brasileirao, Coppe, and Campeonato Gaucho in 2026, is set to bolster Fiorentina's defensive lineup.
