The family of Venezuelan footballer Lucas Trejo, who plays for Marítimo, was tragically found dead under the rubble following a devastating earthquake in Venezuela. The news was confirmed by the club's press service and several local media outlets. Trejo, a 38-year-old Argentinian, joined the club in February and relocated to Venezuela with his family. After a search operation lasting more than three days, his wife, Gianna Maranella, and their two children were discovered deceased. The club expressed their condolences on social media, stating, "Marítimo La Guaira sports club deeply mourns the loss of Lucas Trejo's family. We ask for respect for his family and teammates. After 74 hours of searching, they were found dead." Notably, some matches of the third round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup began with a moment of silence in memory of the earthquake victims.
