Rangers have made their first significant move in the summer transfer window by opening discussions with Bologna over a potential deal for Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson. According to reports, Rangers are now fully aware of the financial requirements needed to secure Ferguson, whose market value has soared to £15.5 million following his impressive stint in Serie A. This marks a substantial increase from the approximately £3 million Bologna paid to acquire him from Aberdeen in 2022. The Ibrox club, under newly appointed manager Derek McInnes, is in desperate need of midfield reinforcements. McInnes aims to instill tactical discipline in a midfield that underperformed last season, and Ferguson's profile fits the bill. Despite only scoring once in 45 appearances last season, Ferguson's development in Italy has been notable, with a 92.6% passing accuracy and a 93% success rate in aerial duels. However, the potential £15 million price tag represents a significant gamble for Rangers, who must weigh this investment against other squad needs, particularly with crucial European qualifiers on the horizon.
