Wayne Rooney has voiced his opinion that England managed to avoid a crucial penalty decision in their match against Ghana, which concluded with a goalless draw. Rooney, serving as an analyst for the BBC, remarked that England was fortunate not to concede a penalty late in the game. The incident in question occurred when Ghana's Prince Adu broke towards the English goal, only for Ezri Konsa to intervene with a tackle that Rooney described as risky. Although Konsa did not make contact with the ball, the referee chose not to award a penalty. Rooney stated, "I think that was certainly a penalty. Konsa took a huge risk with his feet off the ground, making contact with the player rather than the ball." The match also saw England's Harry Kane miss a significant opportunity, hitting a shot over the bar following a setup by Nico O'Reilly. England's coach, Thomas Tuchel, expressed surprise at the miss, noting the team's improved performance against a defensively set-up Ghana.
