Background

Goncalo Ramos joined AC Milan during the summer transfer window after a successful stint at Paris Saint-Germain, where he scored 45 goals in 131 appearances. However, his recent performances for Portugal suggest that he possesses the talent to thrive in the Italian league, making his development a key focus for both Amorim and the club.

Why this matters

Ruben Amorim's confidence in Goncalo Ramos highlights the importance of team dynamics over individual statistics in Serie A football. As AC Milan navigates the early part of the season, the focus on collective performance may be crucial for the team's success, especially with a challenging match against Sassuolo approaching. Ramos, despite his slow start, has shown potential during international play, indicating that he could still become a key player for the Rossoneri.

Goncalo Ramos remains central to AC Milan's plans.

Ruben Amorim has voiced his confidence in Goncalo Ramos, despite the striker's underwhelming start at AC Milan. Ramos, who had a stellar record at Paris Saint-Germain with 45 goals in 131 appearances, has only managed to score once since his high-profile transfer to the Rossoneri. Amorim, however, is not solely focused on Ramos’ goal tally. Instead, he is prioritizing the collective performance of the team as they gear up for their Serie A clash against Sassuolo this Sunday. Since Amorim took the helm at Milan, the team has had a mixed start to the season with three wins and two draws from their first five matches. Ramos' only goal for Milan came in a 2-0 victory over Venezia back in August, but he did find the back of the net in three consecutive games for Portugal during the recent international break. This includes performances that occurred after Cristiano Ronaldo's unexpected departure from the national squad, showcasing his capability to score at the international level. When questioned about his strategy for improving Ramos’ output, Amorim stated, “My job as a manager is to get the team to play better. It is not about putting one player in a position to score more goals individually. We need to create more chances for our strikers, all our strikers, to put the ball in the box more often.” He acknowledged having his own vision for the team, aiming to enhance overall gameplay rather than focusing solely on individual performances.

Milan's ambitions are clear, as Amorim hopes to lead them back to the UEFA Champions League, a feat they narrowly missed last season under Massimiliano Allegri. He emphasized the importance of winning titles and has a clear message for his players: “In this club, you cannot think we are going to win in two or three years; we are a top club, and we have to think we’re going to win now.” He recognizes the competition in Serie A is intense, and the changes in rules are making the league more competitive and fast-paced. As the Rossoneri prepare to face Sassuolo, Amorim knows they will encounter a challenging opponent. Sassuolo has collected seven points from their first five matches, including a thrilling 3-2 win against Juventus in their last outing. The game at Mapei Stadium promises to be a test for Milan as they strive to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. **Players to Watch** **Sassuolo – Domenico Berardi:** Berardi has an impressive record against Milan, scoring 12 goals in 20 matches. He’s one of the few players with a better record against the Rossoneri in Serie A history. **AC Milan – Diego Moreira:** Moreira has netted three goals in just 127 minutes for Milan this season, showing great efficiency. Only two players in the 2000s have scored four goals in their first four games for the club. **Match Prediction** Sassuolo has proven difficult for Milan in recent encounters, having gone unbeaten in their last nine Serie A matches against them, but Milan is eager to assert themselves. The statistics suggest a close contest, with Opta giving Milan a 50% chance of victory, while Sassuolo has a 25.2% chance. As both teams have shown an ability to score and concede, this match could be filled with action and drama.
