FC Barcelona secures English forward Anthony Gordon on a five-year contract, enhancing their attacking options after Lewandowski's departure.
FC Barcelona has officially announced the signing of English forward Anthony Gordon. The club confirmed on Friday that Gordon, an international player at 25, joins the Catalan side to bolster their attack under manager Hansi Flick for the 2026-27 season. The agreement with Newcastle was finalized on Wednesday, costing Barcelona €70 million plus an additional €10 million in variables. Gordon arrived in Barcelona on Thursday for his medical examination.

The signing comes as Barcelona aims to secure their attacking lineup amid fears of Gordon's potential increase in market value during the World Cup. Gordon expressed his excitement, stating, "Barça is the best club in the world and a dream I've had since I was young." Last season, Gordon played 47 matches for Newcastle, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists. His versatility allows him to play across the front line, although he primarily featured on the left wing.
Gordon is the first player to join Barcelona for the 2026-27 season, signing a contract that runs until June 2031. His arrival is critical for Barcelona, especially after the departure of Robert Lewandowski left a gap in the attack. Manager Hansi Flick is reportedly seeking further offensive signings to strengthen the squad.
