June 5, 2026 · Marcelo Castro
Cesena is poised for a significant transition with Andrea Mancini's imminent appointment as Sporting Director. The club is also considering new coaching candidates for the 2026-2027 season.
Cesena is on the brink of a notable transition as Andrea Mancini is expected to sign on as the club's new Sporting Director. The appointment could happen today, marking a pivotal step for the Romagna-based team as they gear up for the 2026-2027 season. Mancini, the former Sampdoria executive, is seen as a key figure in Cesena's strategy to rejuvenate their prospects. His official introduction is anticipated on Monday. Mancini's contract is reportedly set to run until 2027, with an option for an additional year.

The decision to bring in Mancini has the backing of his father, Roberto Mancini, who expressed confidence in his son's potential impact at Cesena. "If Andrea joins Cesena, it'll be the right choice. I'm sure he'll do an excellent job," he stated. However, one of Mancini's first challenges will be selecting a new head coach. Although club president John Aiello seems inclined to retain Ashley Cole, who claims to have improved the team's statistics, Cesena finished the season in tenth place. This position fell short of playoff qualification, contrasting with the eighth spot the team held when Cole took over.
Names such as Daniele Galloppa, who has garnered attention for his work with Fiorentina's youth teams, and Davide Possanzini are in the mix for the coaching role. The club might also consider other potential candidates. For now, the primary focus is on formalizing Mancini's role before proceeding with the coaching decision.
