Chelsea will demand a staggering price for Malo Gusto this summer, with their intention being not to sell the Frenchman despite Manchester City interest. While the club works behind the scenes to push through a record-breaking package for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Enzo Maresca is simultaneously eager to secure a new name to complement Matheus Nunes at right-back. This has led Manchester City’s recruitment department to look towards West London, where Malo Gusto previously excelled under Maresca’s guidance before the manager’s winter departure from Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old French defender has seen his stock rise significantly since arriving at Chelsea and is currently representing France at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in North America. However, any plans City have of engineering a smooth reunion between the defender and their incoming manager have hit a fierce roadblock, with Chelsea’s leadership placing a remarkable asking price on the player. Now, according to transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea value Malo Gusto at a £75 million fee and are not actively working to sell the French right-back despite securing the signing of Italian defender Marco Palestra. From the side of Manchester City, who themselves are in the market for a new right-back this summer, it is claimed that while there is interest in Gusto, no bids have been lodged nor has there been any club-to-club talks so far. Additional reporting from BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella has also revealed that Gusto is exploring his options to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. For Manchester City’s Sporting Director Hugo Viana, navigating this firm stance will test the club’s financial patience during a busy summer window, and may force them to look at alternative targets on their shortlist – including Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento. Chelsea are also actively managing strong interest from Real Madrid for midfielder Enzo Fernández, whom City have already denied interest in, while the Etihad’s officials are poised to deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Brazilian winger Savinho. With official negotiations for Malo Gusto absent at present, the French international is expected to remain fully focused on his country’s World Cup knockout ambitions before returning across the Atlantic to address his club future next month.
