Erling Haaland made a sensational start to his World Cup career, scoring two goals as Norway defeated Iraq 4-1 in Boston. Norway, in their first World Cup appearance in 28 years, took the lead in the 29th minute when Sander Berge's pass found David Moller Wolfe, who set up Haaland for a simple finish. Shortly after, Haaland nearly assisted a goal for Alexander Sorloth, but the attempt was blocked. Iraq responded with a goal by Aymen Hussein, leveling the score briefly. However, Haaland's pressing forced a defensive error from Iraq, allowing him a second goal. Norway sealed the win with a Leo Ostigard header, followed by a late own goal by Iraq, influenced by Haaland's play. Norway now leads Group I, ahead of France and Senegal.
