Uruguay's goalkeeper Fernando Muslera has topped the list for the most significant errors leading to goals at World Cups, as reported by OptaJose on their social media account. In the second round of the group stage at the 2026 World Cup against Cape Verde, which ended in a 2-2 draw, Muslera committed an error that allowed the opponents to equalize.
Muslera now leads the tally of players with the most errors leading to goals at World Cups since 1966:
- Fernando Muslera (Uruguay) - 4 errors;
- Mohammed Al-Deayea (Saudi Arabia) - 3 errors;
- Mark Schwarzer (Australia) - 3 errors;
- Manuel Neuer (Germany) - 3 errors.
In the first round, Uruguay drew with Saudi Arabia (1-1), while Cape Verde surprisingly secured a point against Spain, finishing their match 0-0. In the final, third round of the group stage, Uruguay will face Spain, and Cape Verde will take on Saudi Arabia, with both matches scheduled for June 27.
