It was evident from the start that Senegal posed a significant challenge for France, making it clear this would not be an easy match. The French team, often regarded as having one of the strongest squads in the World Cup, struggled in the first half. Didier Deschamps' side lacked focus and failed to generate notable attacking opportunities, while Senegal came close to taking the lead. A brilliant through ball found former Bayern player Nicolas Jackson, whose shot hit the post and bounced off France keeper Mike Maignan's leg, narrowly missing the goal. Ismaïla Sarr had another golden opportunity just before the break, but he blasted the ball over the bar from close range after a delivery from Sadio Mané. Despite Senegal's strong showing, France broke the deadlock in the second half. After a superb pass from Michael Olise, Kylian Mbappé scored to put Les Bleus ahead. Barcola then added a second goal, and although Senegal managed to pull one back through Mbaye in stoppage time, Mbappé sealed the match with a third goal, leading to a 3-1 victory for France.
