The coach acknowledged the challenges of competing against top-tier teams, noting that his squad has faced off against a Madrid side that has been more aggressive in its dealings with referees than in its gameplay. He reflected on past encounters where Barcelona triumphed when it mattered most, yet also recognized the missed opportunities in pivotal matches during the Champions League, such as the semi-final clash against Inter and the quarter-final against Atlético Madrid.
This week, however, brings new challenges as Barcelona prepares for important fixtures against Aston Villa, managed by Unai Emery, and Atlético Madrid, led by Diego Simeone and featuring Julián Álvarez. Flick emphasized that every match is significant, but he remains realistic about the nature of the competition. In the current phase, no single match is definitively decisive, allowing for recovery and adjustments as the season unfolds.
Ultimately, Flick's focus remains on cultivating a steady stream of performance rather than relying on sporadic brilliance. With two valuable matches ahead, the objective is clear: secure six points to strengthen their position in the Champions League. As Flick aptly put it, success in football often hinges more on sustained effort than on fleeting moments of brilliance.
