Ibrahima Konaté's situation at Liverpool has taken an unexpected turn. The French central defender, whose contract is set to expire, had appeared close to a renewal earlier this year when he expressed a desire to remain at the club. "There is a great possibility that I will continue here next season. That is what I have always wanted," Konaté stated in April, even suggesting that a contract was nearly signed. However, recent reports indicate that no agreement has been reached between the player and Liverpool. Journalist Ben Jacobs noted that despite Konaté's earlier optimism, he is now expected to leave the club, a sentiment echoed by Sky Sports. The 27-year-old, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for €40 million in 2021, is regarded as one of the most attractive central defenders on the market and has been frequently linked with a move to Real Madrid. Unless there is another dramatic change, Konaté will leave Liverpool after five seasons, having made 183 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. During his time at the club, he has won a Premier League title (2024-25), an FA Cup (2021-22), two EFL Cups (2021-22 and 2023-24), and an FA Super Cup (2022).
