Ivory Coast reached the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time after defeating Curacao 2-0. The win, marked by goals from Nicolas Pepe and Villarreal's Yan Diomande, sets up a last-32 clash with either France or Norway. Meanwhile, Ecuador's surprise victory over Germany ensured their third-place group finish.
Ivory Coast has made history by reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time, following a decisive 2-0 victory over Curacao. This win, achieved at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, marks the first time Ivory Coast has won multiple matches in a single World Cup tournament. Nicolas Pepe opened the scoring with a seventh-minute goal, assisted by Yan Diomande, who later secured the victory with a second goal in the 64th minute, courtesy of a deft pass from Ibrahim Sangare.
The victory means Ivory Coast will face the runner-up of Group I, either France or Norway, in the round of 32, with the match scheduled for June 30 in Dallas. As the tournament progresses, Ivory Coast's tactical prowess, particularly their effective use of cutbacks, has been pivotal in their campaign success. Their game against Curacao saw them complete an impressive 558 passes, the highest in a World Cup match for the team.

While Curacao's World Cup journey ended without a win, they provided memorable moments, notably Livano Comenencia's equalizer against Germany and Eloy Room's outstanding performance against Ecuador. Despite finishing at the bottom of their group, Curacao's spirited displays, especially from players like Tahith Chong and Juninho Bacuna, left an indelible mark.
Ivory Coast's advance is a testament to their growing footballing stature, and with players like Amad Diallo and Franck Kessie contributing significantly, they pose a formidable challenge for future opponents. As they prepare for their next match, the team and its supporters remain optimistic about their chances in the knockout phase.
