Emerse Fae, the head coach of Ivory Coast, expressed his frustration following a controversial incident in their 2-1 defeat to Germany. During the closing moments of the match, Ivoriaan defender Wilfried Singo appeared to be injured and kicked the ball out of play. Fae believed that Germany should have returned the ball to them, but instead, Nathaniel Brown attempted to quickly launch a new attack, which irritated the Ivorian staff. "We look to teams like Germany as examples to develop ourselves, so I was disappointed with the lack of fair play displayed by this German team," Fae said in an interview with Sky Sport. He also directed criticism at Brown, stating, "I only told him to stay humble. He played a great match and is part of a strong national team, but that doesn’t mean he should speak to us that way." Fae felt that Germany should have acted differently after Singo had to put the ball out due to injury. "From a major footballing nation like Germany, I expected more fair play. We would have liked to see them return the ball to us." Germany ultimately secured victory with two goals from Deniz Undav, ensuring their top position in Group E, while Ivory Coast, sitting on three points, will fight for a spot in the knockout stage against Curaçao in their final group match.
