Mary Earps, the former England goalkeeper, is back in the Women's Super League (WSL) with a new chapter at London City Lionesses. Earps, who played a pivotal role in England's European Championship victory in 2022 and their Women's World Cup run, has signed a two-year deal with the Lionesses after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. Earps, 33, was instrumental in England's success under Sarina Wiegman, famously saving a penalty from Jennifer Hermoso in the 2023 World Cup final, though England fell short, losing 1-0 to a goal from Spain's Olga Carmona. Having retired from international football before Euro 2025, Earps saw Hannah Hampton take over as England's first-choice goalkeeper. During her time at PSG, Earps made an impressive 41 league appearances and recorded 19 clean sheets, contributing to the team's strong finishes in the French league.
Upon joining London City Lionesses, Earps expressed her enthusiasm for the club's values and ambitions, highlighting their commitment to positive change and competitiveness. The club's recent signings of Grace Geyoro, Delphine Cascarino, and Jana Fernandez indicate their drive to improve on their sixth-place finish last season. Earps' arrival, coupled with rumors of interest in Alexia Putellas, underscores London City's aspirations to become a formidable force in the WSL.
