• Pellegrino Matarazzo remains central to Real Sociedad's plans.

Pellegrino Matarazzo was radiant and ambitious following Real Sociedad's resounding 5-2 victory at La Rosaleda. The American coach analyzed the match, praising the performance exhibited by his players from the first minute. "I need to think about the remaining matches to determine if this is the most satisfying victory, but I believe we started the game very well, and that is important, especially in a stadium like this, which can energize the team. We showed up and acted the way we wanted to," he stated. The txuri urdin coach emphasized the effectiveness of his men in attack, where they nearly reached excellence in creating danger: "We played very good offensive football, scored five goals, and could have scored more. We had many opportunities, and this might be the best offensive football we have seen from our team in quite some time." This brave proposal was meticulously planned during the week: "We focused on playing energetic offensive football today to dominate the match. That was our goal; to show dominance. We wanted to create chances and have players in the box. We fulfilled that through build-up and moments of transition. It was good and important to do it in all phases." One standout player of the afternoon was Takefusa Kubo, who broke his scoring drought in 2026. Matarazzo praised the Japanese player's performance and the invisible work of his supporting teammates on the right flank: "Take's goal was fantastic. I am very happy with how he came to Málaga, very focused, very confident. It shows that he wanted to showcase what he can do, and he did. I also think it was a great run by Héctor to draw a marker, giving Take the space to cut inside and shoot. It was a very good first half for Take and a beautiful goal." The coach did not hold back on praising Mikel Oyarzabal following his long-awaited first goal of the season: "Mikel is a top-level professional who wants to win every match. His competitiveness in training is why he is where he is and why he is the star that he is—because he has that drive. That’s what we love about him, and at the same time, he is humble and a great leader." Matarazzo also highlighted the contributions of the less regular players and the overall improvement in team level: "We can grow as a team. I am very aware of that, of the possibility of growing in LaLiga. Héctor had a very good performance today in how he defended and connected with Take. His offensive game is very good with the ball and gives us a lot. Aihen was very solid. Gorrotxategi and the center-backs... That's positive because then you have more competition, more players who have to perform better to be on the field, and that is how you reach your maximum performance." Finally, Matarazzo pragmatically addressed the defensive lapses experienced in Martiricos, understanding that he is in his comfort zone: "I have always said that it’s about winning matches. We are not happy that we conceded two goals today, nor are we happy that we gave away those chances, but we scored five and could have scored three more. So it’s all about maintaining balance on our side: what is the chance of winning the match if we are fully attacking and maybe concede one or two more chances? We went all out offensively, and it didn’t work defensively, but there will also be some matches where maybe we aren’t functioning offensively, and then we need to defend together as a team, as a block.", The victory against Málaga not only boosted morale but also showcased Real Sociedad's potential as they continue their campaign in LaLiga. The team will look to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures, aiming to maintain their attacking prowess while addressing defensive concerns.

What happens next
