The Netherlands made a powerful start to their World Cup 2026 campaign with a resounding 5-1 victory over Sweden on Saturday. The match, marked by an impressive Dutch offensive, saw Brian Brobbey score twice in the first 18 minutes, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Cody Gakpo also netted two goals, while Crysencio Summerville sealed the victory with a late goal. Memphis Depay, who entered the match in the 27th minute of the second half, assisted Summerville's goal. Despite Sweden's 16 shots to the Netherlands' 10, the Dutch defense, backed by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, held firm. Anthony Elanga scored the lone goal for Sweden, but it was not enough to challenge the Dutch dominance.
