Rafael Leão has announced his intention to depart AC Milan after seven years with the club. The Portuguese forward expressed his departure wish in a recent interview, highlighting a desire for new challenges. Leão, who joined Milan from Lille in 2019 for nearly fifty million euros, made a significant impact in the 2021/22 season by scoring eleven goals and providing ten assists, helping Milan secure their last league title. However, recent seasons have seen increased criticism amidst the club's struggles, and Italian media have reported that Milan is open to selling Leão following their failure to qualify for the Champions League. Leão himself has now confirmed his openness to a transfer, saying, 'I've given Milan everything I had,' to Portuguese broadcaster Sport TV. He acknowledged the club's role in his growth and expressed gratitude for the support during tough times. Reflecting on his contribution to Milan's history, Leão stated, 'I think everyone has dreams and ambitions. I now want to take on a new challenge in a different league.' Previously, he expressed a dream of moving to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United as preferred destinations. However, he remained non-committal on his next move, emphasizing his desire to continue at a top European club, dismissing rumors of a transfer to Saudi Arabia or the interest from Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray. Leão is under contract with Milan until mid-2028.
