The Republic of Ireland kept their World Cup qualification hopes alive by securing a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Netherlands at a rain-drenched Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork. The win, achieved in their penultimate qualifier, means the Irish team remains in contention for automatic qualification.
Kyra Carusa opened the scoring with a first-half effort, but Dominique Janssen equalized for the Netherlands from the penalty spot. Abbie Larkin then restored Ireland's lead with a deflected shot, only for substitute Victoria Pelova to level the match once more. However, Amber Barrett's decisive goal in the 89th minute ensured a memorable win for the hosts.
The Netherlands dominated possession early on, with Esme Brugts going close to scoring. Despite the pressure, it was Ireland that broke the deadlock through Carusa. The game saw Lynn Wilms hit the crossbar for the Dutch, while Ireland's goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan made crucial saves to keep her team in the match.

As the Netherlands equalized through Janssen's penalty, the Irish responded immediately with Larkin's goal, assisted by Marissa Sheva. Pelova's equalizer set the stage for a dramatic finish, as Barrett's late goal from Anna Patten's flick secured the victory.
Carla Ward's side now looks forward to a crucial match against France, where they can secure top spot in their group. Even if they don't win, they are guaranteed a seeded position for the play-offs. The team's resilience and ability to capitalize on opportunities were key, even in the absence of key players like Denise O'Sullivan and Emily Murphy.
Ireland's defense, led by Anna Patten, Caitlin Hayes, and Chloe Mustaki, was instrumental in absorbing Dutch pressure. The team's performance has set them up well for their final qualifier in Grenoble, where their confidence remains high.
