Ruben Amorim, former Manchester United manager, has officially been named the head coach of AC Milan. The 41-year-old Portuguese tactician has signed a two-year contract to take over from Massimiliano Allegri, who departed following a poor season that saw the club miss out on Champions League qualification. Sources indicate that Amorim has agreed to forgo a year's salary still owed by Manchester United after his January dismissal. AC Milan is hopeful that Amorim’s modern, dominant tactical philosophy will invigorate the team. "Coaching AC Milan has always been a career ambition. This club's history and global fanbase represent a significant challenge that I embrace with pride and enthusiasm," said Amorim. His tenure at Manchester United ended after 14 difficult months, but his earlier success at Sporting, where he won the league title twice, has made him a coveted coach across Europe. Amorim's first match in charge will be a pre-season fixture against Celtic on July 25, with a notable clash against his former team, Manchester United, set for August 15 in Wroclaw.
