Sampdoria Receives 'No Thanks' from Pecchia After Possanzini's Rejection
June 22, 2026 · Beatriz Romero
Sampdoria is on the hunt for a new manager after both Davide Possanzini and Fabio Pecchia declined the role, citing differences in ambitions and staff composition as key issues.
As the pre-season training period approaches, not all Serie B teams have finalized their coaching staff. Among the vacant positions, Sampdoria is still searching for a head coach following Davide Possanzini's firm rejection. Today, Tuttosport provided an update on the situation with the blucerchiati, revealing that Fabio Pecchia, who had been courted by Sampdoria in recent weeks, has also declined the offer.

Pecchia's refusal appears to stem from multiple factors, primarily concerning the composition of the technical staff. Similar to Possanzini, the club's desire to retain several existing members on the payroll conflicted with Pecchia's wish to bring his own team. Additionally, Pecchia's annual salary demand of €600,000 was a significant deterrent.
Moreover, Pecchia and the club reportedly had differing views on their ambitions, with Sampdoria's management reflecting instability after two tumultuous seasons. This divergence seems to have effectively closed the door on Pecchia's potential appointment as well.
