Schalke 04 Enlists Wallentowitz and Vozar to Boost First Team
June 7, 2026 · Andrés García
Mika Wallentowitz and Luca Vozar are being integrated into FC Schalke 04's first team as the club continues to rely on its youth academy for financial recovery through talent development.

Mika Wallentowitz, who made 13 appearances during Schalke's triumphant second division season, will be part of the first-team squad. Joining him is U-19 captain Luca Vozar, who is set to sign a professional contract with the club. Schalke 04 is banking on these young talents as the club faces significant financial challenges. The club's Knappenschmiede academy has a storied history of producing top players like World Cup winners Manuel Neuer and Mesut Özil. Recent graduates such as Assan Ouedraogo and Malick Thiaw have also fetched substantial transfer fees, crucial for Schalke 04 given its current debt of almost 150 million euros. As Schalke returns to the Bundesliga, the integration of Wallentowitz and Vozar is seen as a strategic move to develop homegrown talent and potentially secure future transfer revenues. Wallentowitz has already extended his contract until 2030, and if no loan materializes, he will remain with the first team for the 2026/27 season. Luca Vozar, after a stellar season as U-19 captain, is also expected to contribute significantly to the first team, with the hope that these emerging stars will eventually lead to lucrative transfers.
