Sheffield United's Former Owners Claim £35m Owed, File Petition
The former owners of Sheffield United have initiated legal proceedings against the club's present owners, COH Sports Bidco Limited, by filing a winding-up petition. The former owners assert that they are owed more than £35 million, a claim that has caused significant concern about the financial stability of the Championship club. This legal move follows a letter from United World, the investment group led by Saudi Arabian Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, which expressed doubts regarding a recent board update. The update had identified 1919 Partners LLC as the parent company of Sheffield United, a claim that United World questions. COH Sports Bidco Limited, an American consortium, took control of the club in December 2024, led by businessmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy. They had promised to bring stability and growth to the club but now face allegations of failing to fulfill financial commitments related to the acquisition. United World's statement expressed their disappointment and concern over the situation, suggesting that both they and the English Football League (EFL) have been misled, potentially threatening the club's long-term viability. In defense, a spokesperson for 1919 Partners LLC insisted that the ongoing legal issues would not affect the club's daily operations or financial health. They emphasized their commitment to the club's success on the football field and stated that the restructuring aimed to create a more efficient and sustainable ownership model. The spokesperson also noted their continued engagement with the EFL and the Independent Football Regulator. The EFL has acknowledged the developments and requested information from the involved parties, although they have refrained from commenting further. The Independent Football Regulator, with its mandate to monitor club ownership, is also involved but has not disclosed additional details at this stage. Amidst these off-field challenges, Sheffield United is preparing for the upcoming season, having finished 13th in the Championship last year. They are set to kick off their campaign with an EFL Cup match against Mansfield Town on August 9th. As the club navigates these complex issues, its focus remains on achieving success on the pitch while resolving the financial disputes with its former owners. --- ## Related Articles 1.
