Shrewsbury Town is nearing a takeover by an American consortium, with terms agreed and documents submitted for the English Football League's owners and directors test.
Shrewsbury Town Football Club is on the brink of a major change in ownership as they edge closer to a takeover by an American consortium. According to BBC Radio Shropshire, the terms of the potential deal have been agreed upon, and the necessary documents have been submitted to the English Football League (EFL) and the new Independent Football Regulator for approval. This marks a significant step in the club's ongoing efforts to secure new ownership, having been in discussions with various parties since April.

The club's long-standing owner, Roland Wycherley, who has been at the helm for 30 years, has been seeking a buyer since September 2024. Previous negotiations with other American buyers fell through, but the current talks appear to be the most promising yet. Despite earlier setbacks and interest from other parties, the current consortium is different from previous bidders, offering a fresh opportunity for the League Two club.
Under the management of Gavin Cowan, Shrewsbury Town managed to rebound from a challenging season, ultimately finishing 19th in the league and avoiding relegation. Cowan's leadership has been solidified with a new two-year contract, underpinning the club's stability amid ownership changes. While the takeover is not yet finalized, progress is evident, with further documentation being prepared for the EFL's owners' and directors' test. It is important to note that no potential buyer can exert control over the club until the takeover process is officially completed, ensuring continuity in the club's operations.
