Spain entered the World Cup with high expectations but initially failed to meet them, drawing 0-0 with Cape Verde. Coach Luis de la Fuente made four changes for the match against Saudi Arabia in Atlanta, including starting Lamine Yamal. The young star quickly made an impact, scoring the opener after ten minutes. Mikel Oyarzabal doubled and tripled Spain's lead before halftime. After the break, Marc Cucurella, with an aid from Saudi's Hassan Al Tambakti, contributed to a fourth goal. Spain now leads Group H with four points, ahead of their next match against Uruguay.
