Sweden Overwhelms Tunisia 5-1 in World Cup 2026 Opener
June 16, 2026 · Raúl López
Sweden triumphed over Tunisia with a 5-1 victory in their World Cup 2026 opener, highlighted by a brace from Yasin Ayari.
Yasin Ayari scored twice as Sweden dominated Tunisia in their opening match of Group F at the 2026 World Cup. The match, held in Guadalupe, saw Sweden take the lead early when Ayari struck from outside the box in the 7th minute, following a defensive mix-up. Despite his impressive goal, Ayari's celebration was subdued due to his Moroccan and Tunisian heritage. Alexander Isak doubled Sweden's lead in the 30th minute after a quick counterattack, with his shot slipping past Tunisian goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh, who managed to touch the ball but couldn't stop it.

Tunisia pulled one back just before halftime when Omar Rekik headed in a cross from Hannibal Mejbri in the 43rd minute. However, Sweden restored their two-goal advantage in the 59th minute after another defensive lapse from Tunisia, with Vyktor Gyokeres scoring following a setup from Isak. Mattias Svanberg, who came off the bench, added Sweden's fourth goal late in the game, with VAR confirming he was onside. Ayari capped off the scoring with a spectacular long-range effort in stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive victory for Sweden and asserting their dominance in Group F.
