Rhian Wilkinson commended her team of free-agent internationals for their impressive performances that led Wales to the top of their Women's World Cup qualifying group. Key players such as Gemma Evans, Hannah Cain, and Elise Hughes made significant contributions against Montenegro and the Czech Republic, despite uncertainties about their club careers. It has been revealed that Evans is set to join Newcastle United following her departure from Liverpool, while Cain and Hughes remain in search of their next club opportunities. "I think they've done everything they can to put themselves in the shop window," stated Wales head coach Wilkinson. Cain, who is leaving Leicester City after their relegation from the Women's Super League, scored her sixth goal in six qualifying matches. Hughes, departing Crystal Palace after aiding their promotion to the WSL, and Tianna Teisar, leaving Bristol City Women, are also without clubs. Wilkinson expressed hope that her players find supportive club environments soon, acknowledging the challenges of off-season transitions. Wales aims to secure a Women's World Cup spot through the upcoming play-off semi-final in October, with their opponent to be determined in the June 18 draw.
