In a gripping encounter at the 2026 World Cup, Egypt emerged victorious over Australia in a penalty shootout to secure their place in the Round of 16. Before the decisive penalty kicks, Egyptian players were shown clips of Australia's goalkeeper, Matthew Ryan, on a laptop. Ryan, who was subbed in during extra time specifically for the shootout, was unable to save any of Egypt's penalties. The Egyptians successfully converted all their attempts, while the Australians missed twice. Egypt will now face the winner of the Argentina vs. Cape Verde match in the next round.
