Former German national team forward Miroslav Klose has congratulated Argentina's Lionel Messi on surpassing his World Cup goal-scoring record. Messi achieved this milestone in a match against Austria, where Argentina secured a 2-0 victory. Klose remarked, "I've always said Messi isn't that bad. For me, Messi is the greatest footballer of all time. Congratulations, champion," as quoted by Süddeutsche Zeitung. Messi scored his 17th World Cup goal in the 39th minute, overtaking Klose's record of 16 goals. He then extended his tally to 18 with a goal in stoppage time.
