Alejandro Grimaldo Open to La Liga Return
June 5, 2026 Ā· Diego RĆos
Alejandro Grimaldo, linked with a move back to La Liga, stated his desire to play in his home country again. Bayer Leverkusen remains calm about the situation, as no concrete offers have materialized from Spanish top clubs. The club considers Grimaldo essential for their Champions League aspirations and would only consider a transfer for an "immoral" offer.
Alejandro Grimaldo, Bayer Leverkusen's standout player, has once again expressed his desire to return to La Liga. Speaking during Spain's national team Media Day, Grimaldo reiterated his longstanding ambition to play in Spain, despite being satisfied in Leverkusen. His comments, however, do not unsettle Bayer 04, as the club is accustomed to his aspirations and no significant offers from Spanish giants have emerged yet.
Grimaldo, who has been a key figure for Leverkusen, stated, "I have always said I want to return to La Liga. It is one of my goals." The club remains composed over his remarks, as Grimaldo's talent is vital for their Champions League pursuits. Currently, only a significant offer from top clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, or Atletico Madrid could change the scenario.
Despite being an integral part of Leverkusen, the club acknowledges the slim chances of any top Spanish club making a move for Grimaldo, who will soon turn 31. The player has been instrumental this season, contributing 27 scorer points across all competitions. Leverkusen plans to retain him unless an "immoral" offer comes their way.
Leverkusen values Grimaldo highly and sees him as crucial for their future successes. They remain committed to keeping him for the upcoming season, even if it means risking a free transfer next year when his contract ends. Grimaldo's future at Leverkusen appears secure unless a financial windfall tempts the club to reconsider.
