Alex Scott Believes Iraola Can Revive Klopp's Attacking Style at Liverpool

Alex Scott expresses confidence in Andoni Iraola's ability to bring back the attacking style of play at Liverpool, reminiscent of Jurgen Klopp's era, following Iraola's appointment as head coach.
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott believes that Andoni Iraola can rejuvenate the attacking football style that Jurgen Klopp famously implemented at Liverpool. Iraola has been appointed as the new head coach at Anfield following Arne Slot's departure, with the Spaniard signing a two-year contract. The decision comes after Liverpool's fifth-place finish in the 2025-26 Premier League season, a campaign that saw dissatisfaction among fans due to the team's style of play. Liverpool secured a Champions League spot with 60 points, the lowest for a fifth-place Premier League team since Tottenham in 2006-07. Mohamed Salah, in a farewell message, expressed his desire for a return to the aggressive, high-tempo play that defined Klopp's successful tenure.

Scott, who thrived under Iraola at Bournemouth, is optimistic about the new manager's impact at Liverpool. "Iraola is a fantastic coach," Scott said. "His approach at Bournemouth, especially our pressing game, resembled the early days of Klopp's Liverpool. Fans should be excited for what he can bring." Iraola's time at Bournemouth was marked by success, including leading the Cherries to European qualification for the first time and setting new club records in Premier League points. Scott, a key player under Iraola, highlighted the manager's ability to improve players, citing his own development as evidence. "I have grown a lot under Iraola, both in and out of possession," Scott added. "He trusted me from the start, and that belief was crucial to my progress."
Despite Liverpool's significant investments in players like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz last summer, their struggles under Slot's management were apparent. Scott believes that Iraola's methods will unlock their potential, just as he has done with Bournemouth players. The Spanish coach's focus on aggressive pressing and tactical improvement is expected to align well with the expectations at Liverpool, a club eager to relive the glory days of Klopp's "heavy metal football."
