June 6, 2026 · Celia Díaz
Atlético Madrid has made it clear that Julián Álvarez is not for sale, rebuffing transfer rumors and criticizing player representatives for creating unnecessary noise.
Atlético Madrid has issued a strong statement amidst ongoing speculation about the future of Julián Álvarez. The club has categorically stated that the player is not for sale, addressing the rumors that have surrounded him. Emphasizing their stance, Atlético pointed out the lack of any formal or informal contact with Barcelona regarding the player. "There has been no offer or meeting concerning our player," they asserted, dismissing the ongoing chatter as part of a "pre-established campaign."
The club expressed frustration over the ongoing rumors, which they attribute to external sources, rather than the player himself. "We are tired of months of lies, half-truths, and harassment of our players," they declared. Despite the market just beginning, Atlético emphasized that they have not been approached with any real interest in selling Álvarez.

Highlighting Álvarez's professionalism, Atlético praised his conduct, noting that he has consistently demonstrated high levels of dedication and professionalism on the pitch. "Julián has behaved impeccably," they noted, adding that the rumors do not originate from him but rather from his representatives.
Looking ahead, Atlético remains confident in retaining Álvarez, believing it is unlikely that top clubs can simply poach each other's stars without a genuine interest in selling from the owning club.
