Derek McInnes, in a heartfelt farewell, shared his profound appreciation for the opportunity to manage Heart of Midlothian (Hearts), as he transitions to his new role as manager of Rangers. McInnes, who spent just one season at the helm, led Hearts to the brink of a historic Scottish Premiership title, a feat the club last achieved in 1960. Despite leading the league for an impressive 250 days, the title slipped from their grasp on the final day with a 3-1 defeat against Celtic, after having been in a favorable position. This marked the end of a remarkable campaign that saw Hearts spend 226 days at the top of the standings since October. After the season's conclusion, McInnes refrained from public statements due to safety concerns. Now, having signed a three-year contract with Rangers, where he previously played, McInnes expressed his sentiments in a statement to The Hearts Standard. He described his time at Hearts as an "incredible privilege," acknowledging the frustration among fans due to the abrupt end of the season and the lack of communication. McInnes conveyed his anger and devastation over how the season concluded, highlighting the effort put in by the team. He extended his gratitude to the players, staff, board, and the passionate Hearts supporters, expressing his wish that he had joined the club earlier and stayed longer. Despite the short tenure, McInnes cherished the experience and wished the club well for the future.
