Emmanuel Petit Responds to Klopp's Comments on World Cup Goal

Emmanuel Petit addressed Jurgen Klopp's comments about Germany's disallowed goal against Paraguay at the 2026 World Cup, highlighting the differences in rules between the World Cup and the Premier League.

Klopp previously stated, "If that goal is illegal, Arsenal wouldn't have become champions. They scored 60% of their goals that way." In response, Petit questioned, "Why are you mentioning Arsenal? We are talking about the World Cup. I have no idea why he connects yesterday's episode with Arsenal. The rules in the World Cup, in international matches, aren't quite what you'd expect from games in England. Referees in the Premier League are not the same as those at the World Cup or in European competitions," as quoted by talkSPORT. In the 2025/2026 season, Arsenal scored 25 goals from set pieces in the Premier League, accounting for 35 percent of their total goals (71). In the match between Germany and Paraguay (1:1, 3:4 on penalties), the referee disallowed a goal by Jonathan Tah for a foul by Waldemar Anton on the goalkeeper, resulting in Germany being eliminated from the tournament.
