Two men have been charged for stealing $18,000 worth of property from the England football team during their World Cup preparations in Kansas City. The stolen items included football boots, jerseys, and training equipment, most of which has been recovered.
England's preparations for the World Cup 2026 took an unexpected turn when $18,000 worth of property was stolen from their vehicle. The theft occurred while equipment was being transported from England's pre-tournament camp in Florida to Kansas City. Two men, Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal, have been charged in connection with the incident. Despite the theft, the Football Association assures that England's preparations for their opening match against Croatia remain unaffected.
Jackson County prosecutors have detailed the stolen items, which include four pairs of football boots, a football, a pair of goalkeeper gloves, and training kit. Notably, three signed jerseys, valued at $15,000 combined, were also taken. Thankfully, most of the stolen property has been recovered. The charges against Salik and Kamal include one count of receiving stolen property, a serious offense under Missouri law that could result in a prison sentence of one to seven years.

England defender Dan Burn addressed the incident, stating that the team was informed by the media and that it has not disrupted their preparations. Local authorities, including Jackson County prosecutor Melesa Johnson and Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas, have emphasized their commitment to ensuring safety and accountability. Johnson expressed gratitude for the swift actions of the Kansas City Police Department and legal teams in resolving the incident.
The theft serves as a reminder of the challenges teams can face off the pitch, even in the lead-up to the world's most prestigious football tournament. However, England's focus remains firmly on their World Cup campaign, starting with their match against Croatia.
