In front of a packed crowd of 70,492, head coach Mauricio Pochettino commended the vibrant atmosphere, highlighting a growing appreciation for soccer in America. "This is what America is all about â passion and feeling," Pochettino remarked. "The fans were amazing, showing that soccer is now a major part of American sports culture." This World Cup marks Pochettino's debut as a coach on this stage, having previously led the team to significant finishes in the Concacaf Nations League and Gold Cup. Since taking the reins in 2024, Pochettino has guided the USA to an impressive record, with 16 wins, 10 draws, and just one loss. The squad, featuring 13 World Cup debutants, demonstrated resilience and skill. Folarin Balogun, starting as striker, made a memorable debut with two goals, while Gio Reyna sealed the match with a goal in the 97th minute.
