Fulham Football Club is in advanced discussions to appoint Alvaro Arbeloa as the successor to outgoing manager Marco Silva. Silva, who spent five successful years at Craven Cottage, has opted to leave the club for a managerial role with Portuguese giants Benfica after their recent decision to part ways with Jose Mourinho, who has returned to Real Madrid.

Arbeloa, 43, served as interim manager at Real Madrid toward the end of last season, having taken over from Chelsea's incoming manager Xabi Alonso during the campaign. He is currently the leading candidate for the managerial position in west London. Negotiations are ongoing, and while a complete agreement has yet to be reached, there is an expectation within the club that Arbeloa will take over the managerial role.
Having spent his entire coaching career at Real Madrid, Arbeloa has progressed through the youth ranks to reach the interim position last season. A former player, he had two stints at the Santiago Bernabeu and also played in the Premier League for Liverpool and West Ham. Fulham has also explored talks with Kieran McKenna, though it was reported that it would have cost ÂŁ8 million to release him from his contract at Ipswich Town. McKenna has since left the club, citing a desire to take time off to spend with his family. Fulham finished the previous Premier League season in 11th place.
