Germany secured a dominant 7-1 victory over CuraƧao in their World Cup opener, with coach Julian Nagelsmann emphasizing the importance of the win for team confidence and fan support.
Germany's dominant performance in their World Cup opener against CuraƧao resulted in a resounding 7-1 victory, providing a perfect boost for the team following recent struggles in international tournaments. Kai Havertz was a standout, scoring two goals as Germany overcame a brief challenge from World Cup debutants CuraƧao, who held the match at 1-1 until the 38th minute. "We really needed this convincing win," said manager Julian Nagelsmann. "Itās crucial for our self-confidence, which has definitely grown."
The match was particularly significant for the fans, with Nagelsmann emphasizing the importance of showing their ability to perform under pressure. "We need to demonstrate our capabilities and build confidence," he noted. The small Caribbean nation of CuraƧao celebrated their historic first goal in the tournament, scored by Livano Comenencia in the 21st minute, sending their supporters into jubilation. "It felt like I scored, because it was a collective effort from all of us," said CuraƧao's Jearl Margaritha.

However, Germany quickly regained control, with Nico Schlotterbeck heading in a goal from Nathaniel Brown's corner kick shortly before halftime, followed by a penalty converted by Havertz. The second half saw Jamal Musiala and Brown extend the lead further, with Deniz Undav and Havertz adding to the tally.
This match was a strong start for Germany, who are eager to redeem themselves after failing to advance past the group stages in the last two World Cups. "We are on the right path, but we can improve as we face tougher opponents ahead," Nagelsmann added. The match took place at Houston Stadium, where the atmosphere was electric, with a crowd of 68,021 primarily supporting Germany.
Germany's next challenge will be against Ivory Coast in Toronto, while CuraƧao will face Ecuador in Kansas City.
