The German national team's headquarters for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While adjusting to the local environment, the team encountered a venomous snake, a stark reminder of the diverse wildlife found in the United States compared to Europe. Team captain Joshua Kimmich shared the incident during a press conference, stating, "We saw a snake, and we were informed it was venomous. While it might not be lethal immediately, it's definitely dangerous." The Bayern Munich midfielder remarked on the potential dangers, "I don't think there are such dangerous animals in Germany. It feels like things could go very wrong if you step on a snake, so we're keeping our distance." So far, the German Football Association has not implemented special measures against the local wildlife. This incident follows previous advice to the Swiss team to be cautious, as their training field was surrounded by a snake-prone area.
