Defender Nathaniel Braun of the German national team shared his thoughts following the opening match of Group E in the 2026 World Cup against Curaçao, which ended 7-1 in favor of Germany. This match marked the World Cup debut for the 22-year-old player. "It’s indescribable to have scored in my first World Cup match. We are very happy to have scored seven goals. The goal we conceded was unnecessary, but perhaps it helped us to wake up. I am proud of the team for continuing to play at such a high level. Goals are good for us, but we also need to keep working on our weaknesses," Braun stated on FIFA's official website. After this match, Germany sits at the top of Group E with three points, while Curaçao is in fourth place without any points. Ecuador and Côte d'Ivoire will face each other in their first match on June 15. In the second round, the German national team will meet Côte d'Ivoire on June 20, and in the third round, they will play against Ecuador on June 25. Curaçao will play against Ecuador in the second round on June 21 and will face Côte d'Ivoire in the third round on June 25. The group stage runs from June 11 to June 27, with teams playing each other in a round-robin format (three matches each). The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage.
