Inter Milan Target Leo Ostigard as De Vrij Replacement
June 23, 2026 · Alexandro Gómez
Inter Milan is looking to sign Leo Ostigard from Genoa as a replacement for Stefan De Vrij, who is set to leave for Panathinaikos. Ostigard has had a standout season and performed well in the World Cup.
Inter Milan have set their sights on Leo Ostigard as a viable replacement for the departing Stefan De Vrij. The Norwegian centre-back's impressive performances this season at Genoa have garnered attention from the Nerazzurri, who are keen on restructuring their defense ahead of the 2026/27 season. De Vrij's exit appears imminent, with the veteran Dutch defender reportedly nearing a move to Panathinaikos after deciding not to renew his contract with Inter.
While Oumar Solet is the primary target to fill the gap left by Francesco Acerbi, Ostigard has emerged as a serious contender, as noted by La Repubblica via CalcioMercato. The 26-year-old has had an outstanding season in Serie A, making 31 appearances and scoring five goals, marking one of the most notable individual campaigns at Genoa. His form has also translated onto the international stage, having scored against Iraq for Norway during the World Cup.
Ostigard's experience in Serie A includes being part of Napoli's Scudetto-winning squad in the 2022-23 season. However, convincing Genoa to part ways with him could prove challenging, as they recently activated a permanent purchase option from Rennes for just €2.5 million and are not inclined to sell him at a bargain. Furthermore, Ostigard himself has expressed no desire to leave. Inter may have to wait until other signings, such as Provedel, Palestra, and Solet, are finalized before they can revisit their pursuit of the defender.
