Cristian Chivu discusses his contract renewal with Inter and reflects on the challenges faced during the season, emphasizing the importance of team acceptance and the need for new motivation.
Cristian Chivu, the head coach of Inter, shared his thoughts on his contract renewal and the challenges faced this season in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. With a light-hearted tone, he remarked, "Will I stay at Inter longer than Marotta? If I don’t lose three matches in a row, maybe…". Reflecting on the tough moments of the season, he admitted to fearing dismissal, particularly after losses to Udinese and Juventus.

Chivu, who took over after a disappointing season with no titles, acknowledged the importance of connecting with the players: "In front of the guys, I want to be a man, not an authoritarian figure. Even the best coach in the world is useless if the group doesn’t accept him." He believes his human approach and communication were crucial to gaining the team's trust, despite facing challenges, including an early exit from the Champions League.
Chivu stated, "We should have done better against Bodo, but we must accept our reality. We have ambitions due to our history, but we need to tackle the Champions League step by step. Many clubs spend hundreds of millions to win it and still fail. What changes now? It will be tougher. We need to find new motivations, maintain the same mentality, evolve, and restart from scratch."
