Julian Nagelsmann expressed his satisfaction with Germany's impressive start to the FIFA World Cup 2026 following their commanding 7-1 victory over CuraƧao. The German national team coach applauded CuraƧao, a World Cup debutant, for their courageous play. This victory marked one of Germany's most significant wins at the World Cup in this century, with the national team scoring seven or more goals for the third time since 2000. Despite the heavy defeat, Nagelsmann noted that Dick Advocaat's CuraƧao team deserved recognition for their spirited performance. "We played excellently in the first quarter-hour and could have scored more. The equalizer caught us by surprise, but it was good to see our reaction. CuraƧao played better than many in Germany anticipated. They played with courage," Nagelsmann stated during a press conference in Houston. The comprehensive win boosts Germany's confidence ahead of their second group match against Ivory Coast. Nagelsmann was pleased with the team's chemistry in their opening match, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this momentum. He appeared relaxed as he referenced a German song about an unstoppable train, reflecting the team's determination to keep pushing forward. In the final stages, Germany extended their lead with goals from Deniz Undav and Kai Havertz, bringing the score to 7-1. Nagelsmann also addressed concerns about Jamal Musiala, who was substituted in the 64th minute after appearing to clutch his leg. He reassured that Musiala was not withdrawn due to injury but to give other squad members like Deniz Undav playing time.
