England's head coach Thomas Tuchel has delivered a significant update concerning Bukayo Saka's fitness prior to the upcoming World Cup. Saka missed the recent win over New Zealand, following an intense season with Arsenal, where he played a crucial role in their successful campaign. Tuchel emphasized the importance of managing Saka's playing time carefully to ensure he's in peak condition for the tournament. During a pre-match press conference, Tuchel confirmed that England's squad is keeping a close eye on Saka's health as they prepare for a final friendly against Costa Rica on Wednesday night. Saka had been absent from the 1-0 triumph against New Zealand because he joined the national team late, having been involved with Arsenal in the Champions League final on May 30. Saka's previous injury, which caused him to miss the March international break, is still a concern. Tuchel elaborated on the cautious approach they are taking with the player, who was instrumental in Arsenal's Premier League victory. "We have to take care of Bukayo, who had an injury in the March camp and carried it through to the club campaign," Tuchel said. Despite the careful monitoring, Tuchel praised Saka's dedication throughout the challenging season, where he scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in 49 appearances. "He made himself available and was brilliant. He was managed in between matches – we are also building him up. That continues at the moment," Tuchel added. In addition to Saka, other Arsenal players including Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze are in good health. Tuchel reassured fans by stating, "No-one needs a break. Everyone is available which is very good news. No [injury] complaints after the first match." As the World Cup approaches, England's coaching staff is ramping up the intensity of preparations. The team is looking to extend playing times in the match against Costa Rica. Tuchel outlined their immediate strategy and noted the positive response from the team. "[We've had] one day of recovery and two good training sessions. We are ready to give it a push tomorrow, meaning more than 45 minutes. Players will play 60, maybe 70 minutes. We will make this decision in the afternoon," he detailed. Looking forward to the match, Tuchel added: "Tomorrow, we expect a physical push. Physically, [with] intensity and style and play. We want to take the next step and we feel ready for it." England's final friendly against Costa Rica is a precursor to their World Cup opener against Croatia on June 17, which will be followed by matches against Ghana on June 23 and Panama on June 27.
