Torino Targets Serie B Talents to Revamp Defense
June 11, 2026 · María José Fernández
Torino is looking to rebuild their defense by targeting young talents from Serie B, such as Daniel Tonoli from Modena and Gabriele Guarino from Empoli, as they aim to improve their performance in Serie A.
Torino is setting its sights on the future and budget optimization by focusing on strengthening its defense. The team's defense, one of the most porous in Serie A with 63 goals conceded, seeks rejuvenation following the departures of key players such as Maripan, Ebosse, and potentially Marianucci. With only two central defenders remaining and Saul Coco possibly leaving, Torino plans to rebuild its defense with young, preferably Italian talents. The Serie B market is the main focus for these acquisitions.
Daniel Tonoli, a standout player from Modena, is high on Torino's list. The 2002-born central defender has attracted interest from Inter and Atalanta, making him a sought-after prospect. Tonoli's price, estimated between 4 to 5 million euros, is considered accessible, but Torino faces strong competition from Genoa and other top clubs.

Another promising talent is Gabriele Guarino from Empoli's youth ranks. Born in 2004, Guarino has already made 35 appearances and scored 3 goals in his breakout season. His performances have earned him appearances for Italy's experimental national team and the Under-21 squad, highlighting his potential to bolster Torino's defensive lineup.
Torino's strategic move to invest in young talents from Serie B reflects their commitment to building a solid defensive foundation for the future. By targeting players like Tonoli and Guarino, they aim to enhance their defensive capabilities and compete more effectively in Serie A.
