Travel Ban for Torino and Juventus Fans Until November 3

The Italian Ministry of the Interior has imposed a travel ban on fans of Torino and Juventus until November 3, 2026. This decision follows the violent clashes that occurred prior to the derby on May 24, which resulted in serious injuries to Marco Leonardo Basoccu, a 36-year-old Juventus supporter. Basoccu suffered a severe head injury and has since been discharged from the hospital, though he has no recollection of the incident. The restrictions, ordered by Minister Matteo Piantedosi, will affect ten match days of the upcoming Serie A season, with five days allocated to each team's supporters.

The enforcement of this measure entails the closure of away sections in stadiums where Torino and Juventus will play, alongside a ban on ticket sales to residents of the affected regions. Specifically, the limitation targets residents of Piemonte for Torino's matches and extends to Lombardia for Juventus, given the significant presence of their fan base, including the Viking 1986 group, which is based in Milan.

The Ministry of the Interior cited ongoing security concerns following the derby incidents as the rationale for these measures. Local prefects will oversee the implementation of the bans in their respective provinces. The inclusion of Lombardia in the restriction for Juventus matches reflects the concentration of their supporters in this region, as well as past incidents involving the Viking 1986 group. The Digos investigation found that some members attempted to join Torino fans heading to the stadium, resulting in several arrests.

In a related note, Torino's supporters have previously faced similar restrictions after incidents following their match against Verona on April 11. During that event, some Torino ultras attacked visiting fans' buses, leading to arrests and confrontations. The investigations into the derby day incidents and Basoccu's injury continue under the coordination of the Torino prosecutor’s office.
