Tunisia Faces Setbacks Ahead of World Cup 2026
June 18, 2026 · Isa GarcĂa
After a defeat to Austria, Tunisia's coach Sabri Lamouchi isn't too worried but plans changes for the farewell match against Belgium as preparation for the World Cup.
Tunisia's national football team, a competitor in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, recently suffered a 1-0 defeat to Austria. This match, which saw Austria playing with ten men for over half the game, did not overly concern Tunisia's head coach, Sabri Lamouchi. Reflecting on the game, Lamouchi noted that while his team needs more luck and efficiency to succeed at the World Cup, he remains optimistic about their progress. This was only his third match in charge, and he has been positively surprised by the players' responsiveness.

Despite the loss, Lamouchi is looking ahead to the upcoming friendly against Belgium, where he plans to implement some changes. He acknowledges that errors were made during the match against Austria, but emphasizes that such matches are meant for learning and adjustments. Lamouchi affirmed that he has a clear vision for his team moving forward. However, he did express concern that if the match against Austria had been a World Cup game, the mistakes could have been costly, as there's no room for error in such high-stakes tournaments.
